Mrs. Howard brings a variety of experiences in education to West Michigan Aviation Academy. She earned her Bachelor of Arts with honors from Michigan State University and Master’s degree in Educational Technology from Grand Valley State University. As an undergraduate, she spent a year studying abroad in Japan.
Mrs. Howard served as a classroom teacher for English language arts in seventh through twelfth grades for over ten years. Her passion for reading and research led Mrs. Howard to the Media Center where she implemented the first K-12 Information Literacy Curriculum at East Grand Rapids Public Schools. After leaving East Grand Rapids Public Schools, Mrs. Howard served as a building and then district-level administrator at Mattawan Consolidated School. Her main responsibility at Mattawan was data-driven school improvement.
Mrs. Howard's favorite things to do outside of school are reading, camping, and vacationing with family. Family is a big part of her life. She also spend time with her extended family – brothers, sisters, parents, nieces and nephews.
Nearly 25 years of experience allows Mrs. Howard to serve several roles at West Michigan Aviation Academy. In addition to teaching English and Flight Brief, Mrs. Howard continues to provide leadership in curriculum development, assessment and data-analysis, and school improvement. She regards working at West Michigan Aviation Academy as a privilege. Mrs. Howard loves being a part of WMAA and is so proud to see the growth of the school as well as the evolution from the goofy, gangly 9th graders to the quality young men and women who earn their diploma four years later. In addition to helping students become discerning readers and quality communicators, she hopes to instill the values of compassion, life-long learning and a strong commitment to excellence in her students.
